Requirements for the Veterinary Surgeon role:

  • Educational Qualification: Must have a degree in veterinary medicine or veterinary science (BVetMed, BVSc, or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
  • RCVS Registration: Must be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
  • Clinical Experience: Experience in clinical practice, preferably in small animals, large animals, or exotic species, depending on the job role.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
  • Surgical Skills: Proficiency in performing routine surgeries and emergency procedures.
  • Animal Welfare Knowledge: Deep understanding of animal welfare and ethical practices in veterinary care.
  • CPD Commitment: Willingness to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as required by RCVS.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills in various medical cases.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively within a team of veterinary professionals and support staff.
  • Driving License: A valid UK driving license, especially if the role involves mobile or farm animal work.
  • Flexible Working: Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and on-call duties.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting animals or standing for long periods.
