Job Title: Speech & Language Therapist (SLT)
Location: Ipswich
Type: Permanent
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, up to 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £34,500 per annum + golden hello bonus £3000

Duties:

  • To implement the neurobehavioural approach to brain injury, showcasing understanding of current research discoveries and best practices in the domain.
  • To oversee and prioritise a workload of Individuals We Support with intricate mental/physical health requirements and/or challenging conduct.
  • To utilise evidence-based methodologies, focusing on service user-centred principles and clinical judgment to evaluate, plan, execute, and assess interventions.
  • To conduct thorough assessments, taking into account surroundings, circumstances, and future intentions of Individuals We Support, to establish suitable rehabilitation objectives, care strategies, communication and dysphagia therapy routines, and referrals.
  • To surmount communication obstacles to actively involve Individuals We Support in evaluation, rehabilitation, and discharge planning, ensuring valid informed consent.
  • When necessary, operate within a legal framework with Individuals We Support lacking capacity to consent to treatment.
  • To solicit consent from Individuals We Support or advocate for inclusion and information sharing with family, caregivers, and other stakeholders, upholding everyone’s entitlement to privacy.
  • To furnish details regarding service user’s communication capacities and support necessities.
  • To carry out swallowing evaluations, delivering suggestions, care strategies, onward referrals, and training for all personnel in the secure handling and rehabilitation of dysphagia.
  • To be conscious of and adhere to obligations concerning risk management and safeguarding, and identify avenues for enhancement, taking requisite action and assisting others in doing the same.
  • To perform risk assessments and devise measures to enhance health and safety within the work environment as needed.
  • To exercise due diligence in all facets of the role.
  • To sustain the equipment and inventory within the work area, notifying the service manager of any replacement requirements.
  • To sustain registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council, adhering to their stipulations in compiling a portfolio.

Requirements:

You'll need a degree in Speech and Language Therapy, HCPC registration, and demonstrated expertise in dysphagia management. With a minimum of four years of qualified experience, including two years in neurological rehabilitation, or equivalent clinical settings, you'll be well-equipped to thrive in this role.
