Main Purpose

To integrate as a pivotal member of a multi/interdisciplinary team, providing specialised speech and language therapy (SaLT) within the Neurobehavioural model tailored to People We Support with acquired brain injury (ABI). This role assumes leadership in SaLT provision within the service, necessitating effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, family members, and People We Support.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Apply the neurobehavioural approach to brain injury, aligning with current research and best practices.
  • Manage a caseload encompassing individuals with complex mental/physical health needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Utilise evidence-based practices and clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments considering environmental factors, formulate rehabilitation goals and care plans, and develop communication and dysphagia therapy programmes.
  • Facilitate effective communication to engage People We Support in their assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning processes, ensuring informed consent procedures are adhered to.
  • Conduct swallowing assessments, providing recommendations, care plans, referrals, and training to staff on dysphagia management and rehabilitation.
  • Uphold responsibilities in risk management, safeguarding, and health and safety protocols, actively seeking opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain HCPC registration, complying with regulatory requirements and maintaining a professional portfolio.

Other Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership in specialist clinical areas, operating autonomously and contributing to quality enhancement and change management initiatives.
  • Engage in research and audit projects relevant to speech and language therapy, fostering sustainability and service development.
  • Support a culture of learning and development through mentoring, training, and professional development activities.
  • Exhibit accountability for personal development, engaging in reflective practice and continuous professional development opportunities.

About You

They are seeking candidates who possess:

  • A degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • HCPC registration and achieved Dysphagia Competencies.
  • Extensive experience in hospital or residential settings, with specialist knowledge in SaLT models and interventions for ABI.
  • Familiarity with speech and language therapy outcome measures.
  • Minimum 4 years' qualified experience, including complex case management and working with adults with neurological conditions.
