Working Hours: Part-time, 18.5 hours per week

Salary: £16,511 - £17,872 per annum

Main Duties as a Social Worker:
- Support for Birth Families: Work collaboratively with birth families experiencing difficulties to identify and address issues that may impact the safety and well-being of their children. Provide guidance and support to birth families to explore alternatives to removal, aiming to strengthen family relationships and improve the family’s circumstances before considering removal.
- Exploring Alternatives to Care: Offer and explore various support options and interventions to prevent children from entering the care system. This includes identifying and implementing community resources, family support services, and other preventive measures.
- Placement Decisions: Make informed decisions regarding the placement of siblings, considering whether they should be placed together or separately based on their individual needs, relationships, and best interests. Facilitate discussions and planning to ensure that sibling placements are managed thoughtfully and effectively.
- Assessment of Prospective Foster Carers: Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals and families applying to become foster carers. This includes evaluating their suitability, skills, and readiness to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in care. Use a variety of assessment tools and methods to ensure thorough evaluations.
- Training for Foster Carers: Develop and deliver training programs for prospective foster carers to prepare them for the challenges and responsibilities of fostering. This includes providing information on child development, trauma-informed care, and fostering regulations. Support ongoing learning and development for foster carers through workshops and training sessions.
- Matching Children with Adoptive Families: Work to match children with appropriate adoptive families, ensuring that the placements meet the child's needs and preferences as well as the family’s capabilities. Coordinate and facilitate introductions and interactions between children and prospective adoptive families to ensure a good fit.
- Preparation and Transition: Oversee the process of preparing children for placement with adoptive families, including coordinating logistics and providing emotional support to both the children and the adoptive families. Manage the transition process to ensure that it is smooth and supportive for the child.
- Contact and Post-Adoption Arrangements: Facilitate and make decisions about post-adoption contact arrangements with birth parents, siblings, and other family members. Ensure that these arrangements are in the best interest of the child and manage any practicalities involved. Provide support and guidance to families regarding contact arrangements and their implications.
- Support Throughout the Adoption Process: Offer comprehensive support to all parties involved in the adoption process, including adopted children, adoptive parents, and birth families. Provide emotional, practical, and informational support to address their needs and concerns. Act as a liaison between various stakeholders to ensure effective communication and resolution of any issues that arise.
- Collaboration with Legal Department: Work closely with the legal department to navigate the legal aspects of the adoption process. This includes preparing necessary documentation, attending court proceedings, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Collaborate with legal professionals to address any legal issues related to adoption and provide expert input on case matters.
Key Requirements for this role:
- Possess a degree in Social Work (such as CQSW, CSS, DiPSW, or an equivalent qualification).
- Must be registered with Social Work England.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Children Act 1989.
- Thorough understanding of the developmental stages of children and adolescents.
- Proven ability to conduct detailed analyses and produce high-quality written reports.
