Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency has a new permanent position available for a Service Manager within the Youth Justice Service to work full time based in Barking & Dagenham.

The salary for this permanent Service Manager job is up to £69,165 per annum.

Main duties:

  • Provide strong, visible service leadership and professional supervision in order to motivate, manage and develop service staff to deliver a culture of high-quality performance and continuous improvement.
  • Directly supervise and appraise multiple managers, who are each responsible for multiple teams made up of youth justice workers, intervention workers, seconded partners and students.
  • To ensure that an effective duty and consultation system is in place for the service area.
  • Drive excellent casework practice and best outcomes for children and young people within youth justice.
  • To set up and ensure the maintenance of appropriate electronic systems to ensure that performance targets are monitored and met and that areas of performance risk identified are addressed in a timely way.
  • Monitor and ensure timely allocations, throughput, and closures of casework as appropriate.
  • To keep an oversight of the court work within the service and ensure compliance with court timetables, giving clear instructions to legal colleagues.
  • To use audit tools for the regular audit and dip sampling of casework across the Service and to utilise audit findings to ensure that practice standards are met or exceeded and to take timely corrective action if required.
  • Provide operational performance information to the Youth Justice Management Board and Head of Service to enable them to monitor that services are delivering results according to agreed strategy, performance objectives and service level agreements.
  • To hold leadership responsibility for an area of service development and to be accountable for performance in this area across service boundaries, including developing and implementing new initiatives.
  • Chair complex, multi-agency meetings as required.
  • Promote child first and trauma informed planning for all children in the youth justice service and ensure adherence to updated national and legal frameworks.
  • Build and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with other Teams, Services, Council Divisions, and stakeholders across the Borough.
  • To manage delegated service budgets within agreed financial parameters and ensure that the service operates in compliance with relevant legislation, statutory duties and council policies to manage financial risk appropriately.
  • Keep Head of Service abreast of all relevant casework and staff information ensuring that the Children’s Leadership is alerted in a timely way of any risks and/or concerns.

Requirements of a Service Manager:

  • A social Work Qualification or equivalent.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Registered or eligible for registration.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and post qualification activity, including research, practice educating, delivering training etc.
  • Accredited management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Substantial direct experience of, recruiting, leading and managing staff at different levels in an organisation. 
  • Experience of chairing a range of complex meetings with both internal and external partners.
