About the role:

Are you seeking a new opportunity to gain unique experiences? Sanctuary Personnel are looking for an experienced Learning Disability Nurse, Children’s Nurse, or Mental Health Nurse to join our client's secure healthcare team. As a member of their multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for completing assessments and managing a caseload of patients within a secure setting. You will work with service users from a holistic perspective, addressing a variety of complex needs.

About Our Client:

They are a leading provider of healthcare services within justice environments across the UK. Their work spans Secure, Custody, and Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC), where they deliver primary care and forensic healthcare to a diverse patient population. One of their facilities, a Secure Training Centre (STC), accommodates young people aged 12-17 years old in an 80-bed secure establishment.

Their healthcare services align with NHS standards, offering GP, Dentist, Optician, Physiotherapy, and Podiatry services. Additionally, they provide immunisations, sexual health clinics, and young fatherhood programs. They conduct assessments using the Comprehensive Health Assessment Tool (CHAT), utilised throughout the youth secure estate. Their multidisciplinary team includes RNLDs, RMNs, and RGNs RCNs.

Working Hours:

  • Early shift: 07:30 am - 15:30 pm
  • Late shift: 13:30 pm - 21:00 pm
  • 5 days, rolling rota, including weekends. No night shifts.

What's involved:

  • Maintain your own caseload of patients with a diagnosed Learning Disability or ASD, completing initial assessments, care planning, and follow-up procedures.
  • Participate in processes designed to assist patients at risk of self-harm or suicide, in line with NICE Guidance.
  • Attend monthly supervision with your line manager and complete yearly EDR to assess targets, progression, and learning objectives.
  • Support patients using excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as patience and resilience.
  • Provide awareness training and advice for staff on the care of patients with a Learning Disability.
  • Assist with awareness days and workshops delivered by the PCMHT and collaborate with the team to further develop these initiatives.
  • Attend and participate in weekly Integrated Mental Health Team Referrals meetings to ensure an integrated approach when discussing at-risk patients.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills:

  • Part 1 NMC registration
  • 5-year UK residency history

Desirable Skills:

  • Evidence of further development in clinical practice
  • Experience in a secure environment
  • Degree-level qualification or above
  • Involvement in innovation or change
  • Nurse Prescriber qualification
  • Experience working in a ‘value for money’ service
  • Driving licence
