Duties of the Occupational Therapist:

  • To provide a highly specialised Therapy service to professional standards within Urgent Care and Acute Medicine.
  • This includes urgent care and acute medical wards alongside their MDT colleagues. They will provide advice and guidance as required.
  • The post holder will be an experienced therapist who will act as the advanced specialist within the Urgent Care and Acute Medicine Team.
  • Work both autonomously to assess patients which will include initial history, functional based assessment, intervention, equipment provision and recommendations to address any care needs identified within the MDT.
  • Demonstrate safe, senior clinical decision making and expert patient care.
  • To work across traditional boundaries and must be able to make informed decisions within their speciality and scope of practice / competencies that have been completed to achieve this.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision making process.
  • Work collaboratively within the ward MDT to meet the needs of the patients and will be expected to play a key role in the service delivery and adhere to policy and procedure. They will be expected to partake in the education of staff in the speciality of Urgent Care and Acute Medicine and will be actively involved in evidenced based care, audit and service development.
  • Attend designated Urgent Care and Acute Medicine meetings with the sole aim of implementing and improving services for our patients.
  • Provide high quality and evidence based care across the seven day service.

Requirements of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • Recent UK experience working as an Occupational Therapist
  • Recent NHS experience
  • Registered with the HCPC
