Key Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Head of Clinical Services, holding accountability and responsibility for the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) provision to all clients within our rehabilitation centre.
  • Lead and manage a specialist SLT team in a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre, including band 6 and band 5 SLTs, an SLT assistant, and SLT students.
  • Contribute to the development of a high-quality SLT therapeutic service.
  • Provide specialist dysphagia assessment and intervention to clients, utilising senior practitioner-level competencies and experience.
  • Conduct highly skilled communication assessments and interventions for clients with acquired brain injury, such as stroke, ABI, and other neurological conditions, using senior practitioner-level expertise.
  • Deliver 1:1 and group SLT sessions to various clients and create accessible communication and swallowing guidance for the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).
  • Perform skilled mental capacity assessments independently or jointly with other professionals, as appropriate.
  • Act as a 'key worker,' managing and overseeing specific clients' journeys, liaising with families, coordinating care and discharge packages, and being the single point of contact for queries.
  • Advocate on clients' behalf in various situations, including writing reports, CHC forms, and participating in complex DST meetings requiring highly skilled reporting and the ability to handle questioning.
  • Collaborate closely with the wider MDT, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, the psychology team, dietitians, nurses, carers, kitchen staff, and activity coordinators. Also, work with external agencies such as social workers, safeguarding experts, expert witnesses, lawyers, neuro-navigators, and DST assessors.
  • Work with the Head of Clinical Services and senior management on service development, quality improvement projects, and clinical audits.
  • Provide clinical supervision and expert advice to SLT staff and SLT students on placement.
  • Handle recruitment within the SLT department and support the recruitment process for the wider CRC staffing remit.
  • Manage the SLT team, including overseeing sickness absence, performance, appraisals, and probationary periods in line with company policy.
  • Support and lead learning and reflective practice within the SLT and the wider team, providing and participating in training and learning activities.
  • Collaborate with our catering company, manager, and dietitian to ensure a high standard of catering in line with the IDDSI framework.

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist:

  • Degree in Speech & Language Therapy.
  • Registration with HCPC.
  • Qualification relevant to Neurorehabilitation.
  • Dysphagia Training
  • Experience with adult neurologically impaired adults.
  • Experience of management at least at team/middle management level.
