Main Duties:

  • Manage an allocated workload with a high level of professional competence, including assessing complex needs and risks, support planning, commissioning care, and review.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies and community resources to ensure integrated support.
  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns for children and adults, liaising with key agencies.
  • Apply legal interventions and departmental policies to support outcome-based planning for adults and their carers/families.
  • Maintain high standards in report writing and provide court evidence when required.
  • Lead and implement local and national service developments using evidence-based practice.
  • Assist the practice manager in social work development reviews, staff training needs, and induction programmes for new staff.
  • Provide casework supervision and consultancy for social workers, staff, and students.
  • Manage caseloads and provide necessary supervision, monitoring, and feedback.
  • Supervise Investigating Officers and oversee safeguarding investigations as needed.
  • Lead the team in efficiently responding to referrals, coordinating assessments, risk assessments, case planning, and review processes.
  • Keep the Practice Manager informed of case planning processes and manage supervisees’ cases in their absence.

Mental Health Responsibilities:

  • Perform Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) duties and participate in AMHP rotas.
  • Complete training to provide practice placements for AMHP students.
  • Supervise AMHPs, maintaining knowledge of Mental Health Act case law and ensuring ongoing training and meeting attendance.

Forensic Responsibilities:

  • Provide social work services to mentally disordered offenders in the community and manage complex caseloads within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Act as Social Supervisor for clients under Section 41 of the Mental Health Act.
  • Prepare reports for mental health tribunals and managers, attending hearings as required.
  • Maintain confidential records in compliance with policies.
  • Liaise with secure hospitals for discharge planning and complex care package formulation.
  • Participate in ward reviews at admission and pre-discharge as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensure compliance with part 3 of the Mental Health Act and Section 117 aftercare arrangements.
  • Liaise with Victim Liaison Officers regarding victim rights under the Domestic Violence, Crime, and Victims Act 2004.
  • Participate in clinical improvement groups and audits.
  • Operate within Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).

Requirements of the Social Worker:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Significant frontline experience in Adults Services within the UK
