Main Duties of the Social Worker:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of potential foster carers and kinship carers to determine their suitability, which includes gathering information on their background, motivation, and capacity to care for children
  • Manage a caseload of foster and kinship care families, providing them with ongoing support, guidance, and supervision.
  • Facilitate or coordinate training sessions to enhance carers' understanding of fostering/kinship care, child development, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children by identifying safeguarding concerns and taking appropriate actions in line with local safeguarding procedures.
  • Prepare for and participate in court proceedings, if necessary, including preparing evidence, reports, and case documentation.
  • Work closely with other teams and professionals, such as children’s services, education, and health services, to provide comprehensive support to the child and carer.

Requirements of the Social Worker:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Significant frontline experience in Children’s Services working as a Social Worker
  • Prior experience in children’s services, ideally with knowledge of fostering, kinship care, or adoption.
  • Understanding of the specific challenges and requirements in fostering and kinship placements.
  • Experience collaborating with various agencies, such as health, education, and legal services, to support children in care.
