About the Role

As a Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will lead the way in providing expert occupational therapy as part of a multidisciplinary team within the BIRT Neurobehavioral Model. You’ll work closely with service users who have sustained acquired brain injuries (ABI), empowering them to regain independence and rebuild their lives. You’ll be at the heart of delivering high-quality, evidence-based interventions, managing a varied caseload, and ensuring the best outcomes for service users.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Expertise

  • Take charge in your specialist field, working autonomously with advanced skills in neurological rehabilitation, and lead OT provision.
  • Handle a caseload of individuals with complex health needs or challenging behaviours, prioritising care and delivering bespoke treatment plans.
  • Implement evidence-based assessments and interventions to enhance occupational performance in self-care, productivity, and leisure.
  • Design, delegate, and monitor rehabilitation programmes, collaborating with support workers and therapy assistants for smooth handovers.
  • Engage empathetically with service users and families who may face challenges in the rehabilitation process, ensuring they remain motivated and supported.
  • Perform thorough risk assessments and ensure regular updates, communicating effectively with the team.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation and provide professional reports demonstrating your highly specialised knowledge.
  • Collaborate with families, external agencies, and other professionals to ensure person-centred care, respecting cultural and individual needs.

Requirements of the Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist:

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent).
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Significant experience in neurological rehabilitation or working with individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI).
  • Proven track record in managing complex cases, including mental health, physical health, and challenging behaviour.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience within an occupational therapy team.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary teamwork, collaborating with professionals across different specialities.
