Duties:

  • Provide strategic direction on the provision of the Health Protection/Knowledge & Intelligence public health portfolio, in line with the council strategic priorities and population wellbeing strategy/provide the Council’s expert approach to the use of evidence across the council.
  • The strategic lead for the JSNA, population health management, pharmaceutical needs assessment, population profiles, and population analysis to inform the commissioning of services

Requirements of the Public Health Consultant:

  • Relevant qualification
  • Previous experience working as a Consultant
  • Recognise and respect a culture of inclusivity within the organisation where voices are respected, valued and heard
  • Be able to understand the needs of the local population and will lead complex areas of work with partners/be able to have a high degree of independent working and will need to take initiative, have excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, and have the ability to deliver operationally/understand the complexity of public health and be able to communicate it to others/be able to deal with complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options/be able to cope with complex, multiple and changing demands, and to meet tight deadlines/be able to support work colleagues and their team when difficult situations arise
  • A high level of intellectual rigour, negotiation and motivation skills and flexibility are required to build rapport with partners, deal with complex issues, and to make decisions regarding services/a high level of tact and diplomacy is required and an ability to understand other cultures to enable effective working across organisational boundaries and influence without authority
