Contract duration - fixed term - 12 months
Travel & Accommodation - return flight cost included, accommodation provided onsite at no charge (or an allowance provided if sourced yourself)
Pay rate - £43,639 to £47,328 depending on experience

Responsibilities/general duties:

  • Assist the Head Optometrist in the delivery of a comprehensive Optometric Service, autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, using advanced specialized and highly specialized clinical skills, experience and evidence-based practice to personally deliver, assess, diagnose and formulate treatment plans for the patients referred to the Optometry Service.
  • Following NICE Guidelines and the standards laid out by the General Optical Council and British College of Optometrists.
  • Keep comprehensive patient notes, statistical records, patient reports or any other administrative requirements of the department.
  • Liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, to ensure appropriate management of the patient.
  • Create a suitable environment for a high standard of work. To assist in the in-service training of other Ophthalmic Staff and professional colleagues.
  • Be personally responsible for maintaining up to date GOC Registration and ensuring further knowledge of Optometry through Continuous Professional Development.
  • Assist the Head Optometrist in monitoring working practices in accordance to clinical governance guidelines and proposing changes in policies, to reflect best practice, according to the evolving needs of the service.
  • Contribute new ideas for the improvement of the service and to be willing to pursue these in consultation with the Head Optometrist.
  • Collate figures and audit clinical activity as directed by the Head Optometrist.
  • Report to the Head Optometrist all matters of concern, special problems or requirements relating to their area of work. Any Accidents/Near Misses or Health and Safety concerns must be reported immediately.

Requirements for the Optometrist role:

  • GOC Registered Optometrist
  • Professional knowledge acquired through Degree, clinical placement plus advanced clinical training and experience to Master’s level or equivalent
  • Significant post Pre-Registration experience
  • Experience of testing children and additional learning needs patients
  • Medisght, Lorenzo, clinical portal
