Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Occupational Therapy assessments and treatment plans tailored to the client's goals of maximising functional independence.
  • Conduct access and home visit assessments, implementing appropriate aids and equipment to enhance functional independence.
  • Serve as a key worker for clients, supporting their rehabilitation, stay, and discharge plans.
  • Manage your own caseload and be responsible for a defined service area, working independently without direct supervision.
  • Collaborate as a member of the multidisciplinary neuro-rehabilitation team to plan, develop, and deliver effective and efficient services.
  • Continuously evaluate treatment plans in conjunction with the senior therapist.
  • Set both short-term and long-term goals for clients.
  • Lead and assist in splinting as needed.
  • Integrate and monitor treatment programs in the client's environment, whether performed by therapy support workers or care and support staff.
  • Implement strategies agreed upon by the multidisciplinary team into treatment management.
  • Participate in the assessment of wheelchair seating requirements for clients in coordination with the Physiotherapy department, if necessary.
  • Stay updated with developments within the occupational therapy profession.
  • Supervise Band 5 occupational therapists, students, and therapy support workers as needed, in collaboration with senior OTs.
  • Advise and assist other session staff in creating an optimal working environment to help clients maximise their physical abilities, in conjunction with senior therapists.
  • Contribute to clients' reports for reviews and case conferences.
  • Ensure that all equipment used is in good condition and maintain the safety of clients and staff at all times, in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Provide information based on professional judgment and experience to clients, families, carers, and other involved agencies, with implications for future provision.
  • Maintain client records and provide written assessments as required.

Requirements of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registered with HCPC.
  • Membership of BAOT/COT.
  • Qualification experience of working with physical disability and neurological rehabilitation.
  • Experience in working with complex physical conditions.
  • Experience of assessing for and ordering/prescribing/fitting equipment and adaptations.
  • Experience with manual handling.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (desirable).
