Pay Rate: £33 per hour (assignment rate)

Main Duties:

Safeguarding and Child Protection

  • Provide expert safeguarding and child protection advice, assessments, and analyses to the Court regarding the needs and best interests of children involved in Family Proceedings.
  • Prioritize the well-being and safety of the child throughout Cafcass' involvement in the case.
  • Address all incidents or risks of significant harm to the child in line with Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) procedures and Cafcass policies.

Direct Work with Children and Families

  • Work directly with children and families to achieve safe and positive outcomes, making referrals to other services when beneficial.

Service Effectiveness and Productivity

  • Produce high-quality work efficiently, balancing increased productivity with casework quality.
  • Ensure that all work meets good or outstanding ratings in internal and external audits, using any exceptions as learning opportunities for future improvement.
  • Engage fully with policy on case allocation, adopting a proportionate approach to work based on case needs, with average time spent on cases adjusting to demand levels.

Quality of Casework

  • Conduct advanced social work case analyses of children’s circumstances, updating as needed when circumstances change. Provide initial case analysis advice to local teams for Intake roles.
  • Offer advanced social work advice to assist the Court in achieving timely conclusions to proceedings and the best possible outcomes for children.
  • Comply with Family Court orders and conduct necessary inquiries in accordance with relevant legislation and Court Rules.
  • Develop and monitor a clear child-focused plan of work for each case, ensuring ongoing review.
  • Ensure the appointment and instruction of legal representation for the child as required, working in partnership with relevant agencies.

Requirements of the Family Court Adviser:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Significant frontline experience in Children’s Services
